May Day is a popular Greek celebration with roots in antiquity. Tradition has it that the month was named after Roman goddess Maia, which in Greek means midwife, nurse and mother

Ancients Greeks dedicated the fifth month of the year to Demeter, the goddess of agriculture, and her daughter Persephone, who would return to her mother on that month after spending the winter with Hades the ancient underworld.

This year, as it has coincided with Easter Sunday, the celebration has been transferred to May 3^rd.

People pick flowers and use them to create wreaths which they will hang on their door until it goes dry. The wreath making process symbolizes bringing people closer to nature, as well as the beginning of spring
