The Spring School organized in the modern settings of Caravia Beach Hotel & Bungalows, provided an in-depth knowledge of tourism from economic, social, cultural and environmental perspectives. It focused on key scientific areas, including:
– Social Media Marketing: technology enables tourism to develop the ability and smartness in tourism, allowing the destination of tourism impact and sustainability of resources.
– Innovation and Competitiveness
– Environmental Practice for Profitability
Lecturers were:
Professor Dimitrios Buhalis, Bournemouth University
Professor Dimitrios Buhalis is a Strategic Management and Marketing expert with specialisation in Information Communication Technology applications in the Tourism, Travel, Hospitality and Leisure industries. His research area is cutting across a number of disciplines and is looking into adoption of innovations for creating value for both consumers and organisations.. He is currently Director of the eTourism Lab and Deputy Director of theInternational Centre for Tourism and Hospitality Research, at Bournemouth University in England. Dimitrios is also the immediate past President of the International Federation for Information Technologies in Travel and Tourism (IFITT).
Adele Ladkin is Professor of Tourism Employment in the School of Tourism, Bournemouth University. She has research interests and publications in the areas of employment and labour markets in the tourism and hospitality industries. This includes the role of education in developing human capital for tourism workers, human resource issues, migrant workers and green jobs. She serves on a number of Editorial Boards for leading tourism and hospitality journals.
Alexandros Paraskevas (PhD) is Professor in Strategic Risk Management and Chair in Hospitality Management at the London School of Hospitality and Tourism in the University of West London. His hospitality industry background includes internal auditing and operations management positions for over a decade with Marriott International and Starwood Hotels and Resorts. Alexandros researches the governance and management of risks/crises both in an organisational and tourism destination context.
